Some history

Fontanka river Embankment, 101

Cultural heritage building that was built in 1798-1828, one of the so-called 'Three Sisters' - Olenin-Poltoratsky's house.

Three identical buildings are excellent examples of the Classical Architecture. In the second half of 18th century area, now occupied by these buildings, belonged to the founder and the first director of the St-Petersburg State Capella Choir M.F. Poltoratsky.
Following the marriage of one of Poltoratsky's daughters, part of the area was given to her as a dowry, which would be later used to build a house, numbered 101 nowadays.

Here, at Olenin's literary salon, who was the Public Library director and the president of the Academy of Arts, regular gatherings occurred with an extensive list of notable figures attending including V.A. Zhukovsky, P.A. Vyazemsky, A.S. Pushkin, M.I. Glinka, O.A. Kiprensky and others.

Later in the neighbouring area two other houses were built both belonging to other Poltoratsky's daughters (numbered 97 and 99 nowadays). Contrary to the House 101, which in 1852 underwent reconstruction of the facade (and major overhaul in 1958), Houses 97 and 99 can still be appreciated pretty much in its original form to this day.

The building is conveniently located between Moskovsky Avenue and Efimova Street, next to the Business Centre 'MIR', shopping malls 'Sennaya' and 'PIK', fitness club 'WorldClass' and a variety of monuments and places of cultural interest.
